Off-site hiking trips give campers the chance to experience nature and adventure first-hand.
The Three Crosses Hike, a fixture of Chilawee for over 20 years, is still a rite of passage for younger campers. Campers hike from the camp gate through forests and fields until finally climbing to the three crosses that overlook Franks Lake. On the way, songs are sung, friends are made, and the beautiful scenery is enjoyed.
Older campers go on a day long trip to Algonquin Park, where they hike, swim, and visit the nature centre. For more information on the program for older campers, please read about the LIT program (link).
All hikes are well-staffed and include staff specifically trained in first aid and equipped with first aid supplies. Staff carry cell phones and the camp number in case of emergencies. All staff are trained in trip procedures, including regular water breaks and attendance checking.
